Hello to all of you I know somewhat through all the discussing I had with Lynn since our regular meeting in France/Poitiers since 1993. First of all, please apologise my English writing who will be certainly poor, but I hope you will feel how much I share with you intensively these moments. I hope that you can also transmit this email to Renate since we also shared all together big pieces of nice time in Poitiers and in France. In 93, I was a young PhD researcher and Lynn SEAMAN was for me only a very famous scientist whose work were a big part of the layout of my research field. His name was filling my thesis bibliography, and at a conference in Strasbourg, I dared to approach him to ask him some help about his models I was trying to use. I was quite shy to speak to such a famous researcher, and what a pleasure to feel spontaneously how open he was and the consideration he was bringing to any work related to his research. Actually, he proposed to me to simply give me everything he had developed to try to validate it through the work I was doing. This was the start for a long story. I invited him to come to our lab, what he acknowledged and pretty soon, he was in Poitiers with Renate. I was happy to have them discovering all the best I had recently discovered in enjoying life in the French way, and they were so open to all that. We were visiting places, and little by little, they were become part of my family, actually they are. Regularly, all my friends and family are asking news, and especially in this period of grape harvesting to which Lynn could participate with farmers not speaking a word of English but who had really a feeling of exchange with him, always telling him stories and jokes. This was a memorable moment. Lynn came several time to France for keeping on our common efforts in research, always being young in his mind and playing to research with us. Staying at home, he was also always helping me to fix things (as if he had not enough in Mariposa), but we had always time for rest and speaking. So, why telling you all this? Just that I have the feeling to give you back a slice of life of Lynn that will remind for ever graved in my mind as a good souvenir and a kind of model in life :always positive and believing that there was so much fun and new things to discover, I am too sad that he was not lucky to have more time for enjoying all that and that I will not see him again. You can be sure that for us here in Poitiers, he is for ever in our minds and that we will continue in the way he showed us, being positive and looking more what is going well than the reverse. I have many pictures going with the moments I describe. I will try to gather this as much a possible and send it to you for sharing with all the family and friends. Be sure that where I am, my thoughts are towards Lynn and you, sincerely. Michel BOUSTIE 7 rue des Lises de la Ballu 86490 BEAUMONT, France 33 5 17 19 10 39
