So often, as a security officer for SRI, I worked the late shift. My security patrols always took me in the second floor of A building, usually past Lynn's office, and his light was rarely off. He would be in his office reading some scientific journal, or reviewing past work he had accomplished. I would poke my head in the room, and say, "Hi, Mr. Seaman." and he'd always smile and say, "Hi, Mark. How's things going." The very first time I met him, I was a college graduate still active in SJSU Physics association, and I asked him about Schrödinger's Cat (Quantum physics and metaphysical philosophy). Lynn politely entertained my thoughts on the subject, as he was always patient with people's thoughts and beliefs even if they're inherently wrong =) That's the part I'll miss most now about SRI. Lynn being there to chat with, to lend an encouraging word or to pass a few jokes about "the SRI way". Upon occasion, after I left physical security for a better position in corporate security, I would run across Lynn walking the campus. We'd exchange updates on where we've been, what we're up to now. Lynn was a great man, and although I was unfortunate enough not to have spent more time with him, I counted him a good friend. I promised myself the Tuesday before he passed to go see him, I even let Don know I had intended to discuss one last thing with him about work and share some time...but things got severely difficult on the home front with my mother being in the hospital, my father heading for prostate surgery, and me dealing with skin cancer appointments from Kaiser. Sometimes tomorrow is too late, and in this case it turns out that hind sight is indeed 20-20.
