Our town of Mariposa, nestled in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountains about 47 mils southwest of Yosemite, had a population of 700 and a unified high school of close to 130 students when we graduated in 1952. Lynn had attended Mariposa High for his senior year and from the first class we shared I knew someone unique had arrived. When Mr. Adelsbach, our principal, taught Lynn and I advanced algebra in his office, (remember it was a small school) I think Lynn could easily have taught the class. Mr. Adelsbach certainly encouraged him to utilize his talents. He was learning Russian on the side – needless to say, he was Valedictorian of our class. Besides being outstanding mentally, Lynn was one of the nicest classmates I ever had. After meeting again at our class reunions, my husband invited him to be the guest speaker at a “What Physicists Do” series at the university. Lynn came and gave an outstanding presentation of his work for SRI. We kept in touch with Lynn by e-mail and occasional visits and reunions. When you add all Lynn’s talents and character traits, we have all suffered a great loss.
